Thaicom strives to be a leading Asian satellite operator by connecting people through digital innovations and creating value for all stakeholders.


Established on 7 November 1991 by INTOUCH, the Company was granted a 30-year Domestic Communication Satellite Operating Agreement by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (currently transferred to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology-MICT).

His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej officially names the satellites of this project "Thaicom", as a symbol of the linkage between Thailand and modern communications technology.

The Company became a listed company on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 18 January 1994, and is officially traded under the symbol THCOM. Since its establishment, the Company has expanded its business activities to include Internet and telephone services, and DTV satellite television dish sales. As of 31 December 2012, INTOUCH, which is the Company's major shareholder, holds 41.14% of the Company’s shares. Thaicom has launched 8 satellites, Thaicoms 1, 2 and 3 (all de-orbited), Thaicom 4, (IPSTAR), Thaicom 5, 6, 7 and Thaicom 8 which was successfully launched at the end of May 2016. The company has also built high-quality satellite service facilities besides its main earth control station. This teleport and DTH center has been ISO9001:2000 certified since 2002. In addition the Company also received an ISO 22301:2012 certificate for Business Continuity Management System (BCMS) in 2016. This recognition assures that the Company has an effective management plan to mitigate the risk of potential business disruption.

Innovations have brought global attention to Thaicom. The company was the first in the region to offer Ku-band, Digital Direct-to-Home broadcasting as well as the world’s first operator to employ MPEG-2 DVB compression since 1994. Thaicom also developed and launched the world’s first Internet Protocal (IP) satellite, IPSTAR. This broadband satellite fully supports telecommunications via Internet Protocol. The Company received the “Industry Innovator Award for Technology Development and Applications” in 2006 for the IPSTAR technology from the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI).

At present, IPSTAR offers broadband and mobile backhaul services to operators and providers in 13 countries across Asia while our conventional satellites serve more than 700 TV channels.
